Best Time to Visit Corsica

Corsica in the morning

Summary: The best time to visit Corsica depends on what you want to do. For beach holidays, June through September is ideal, while hikers enjoy May-June and September-October the most. The island has something to offer year-round.

Corsica has a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild winters. However, the mountainous terrain means weather can vary significantly by region and altitude.

Peak Season: July and August

The warmest months are July and August, with coastal temperatures reaching 30-35°C. The sea is delightfully warm (23-26°C) and nearly every day is sunny. The downside: it's crowded. Beaches are packed, prices rise, and popular campsites are fully booked. Make sure to reserve well in advance during this period.

The Sweet Spot: June and September

If you want to avoid the crowds but still enjoy great weather, go for June or September. Temperatures are pleasant (22-28°C), the water is warm enough for swimming, and there are far fewer tourists. In June, the maquis is in full bloom and the entire island is fragrant with herbs.

Spring and Autumn: Perfect for Active Holidays

May and October are ideal months for hiking, cycling, or exploring the interior. Daytime temperatures are comfortably warm but not hot, and the mountain passes are generally snow-free. The GR20 is best tackled between June and October.

Winter in Corsica

From November to March, the island is quieter and cooler, but the coast remains mild (8-14°C). The mountains see snowfall and you can even go skiing. Many restaurants and hotels outside the major towns are closed, but the natural scenery is beautifully serene.

Insider tip Don't just look at the month — consider the region too. The east coast is generally warmer and drier than the west coast, and in the mountains it can be cool even in summer.
