Campervan and Campsites in Corsica

Corsica in the morning

Summary: Corsica is a popular campervan destination, but the narrow mountain roads and limited infrastructure require good preparation. There are dozens of campsites across the island, ranging from simple fields to full-service beachfront resorts.

Corsica and camping go hand in hand. The island has over a hundred campsites, from basic municipal grounds to luxury sites with swimming pools and entertainment.

Campervanning in Corsica

A campervan gives you maximum freedom, but keep the narrow, winding roads in mind. Large motorhomes (longer than 7 metres) will struggle on the D-roads in the interior. Think ahead about parking: space is often limited in villages and at beaches.

Wild camping is officially prohibited in Corsica, including in a campervan. The rules are enforced during peak season, especially around popular beaches and nature reserves. However, there are an increasing number of aires de camping-car (motorhome stopovers) near villages.

Choosing a Campsite

Corsican campsites are often in stunning locations: right on the beach, in the forest, or beside a river. Book well in advance for July and August. In the shoulder seasons, you can usually turn up without a reservation.

What to Expect

  • Basic facilities: showers, toilets, sometimes a small shop
  • Shade from pine or eucalyptus trees
  • Many campsites only accept cash
  • Electricity can be limited (6 amps)

Tips for Campervanners

  • Top up your water tank at every opportunity
  • Dump stations (vidanges) are not available everywhere
  • Prefer driving early in the morning when the roads are quietest
  • Bring a bicycle for the last stretch to a beach or village

Insider tip The municipal campsites (campings municipaux) are often the most authentic and affordable option. They sometimes occupy the most beautiful spots on the island.
