Costs and Budget in Corsica

Corsica in the morning

Summary: Corsica is not a cheap destination. The island is more expensive than mainland France, especially in peak season. With smart planning you can still holiday affordably, particularly if you camp and cook for yourself.

Corsica is known as one of the pricier destinations in the Mediterranean. Nearly everything has to be shipped in by boat, which drives up prices. Still, with a bit of planning, you can enjoy a wonderful holiday without blowing your budget.

Accommodation

This is the biggest expense. In peak season, expect to pay:

  • Campsite: EUR 25-45 per night (tent + 2 people)
  • Holiday rental: EUR 800-2,000 per week
  • Hotel: EUR 80-200 per night

In the shoulder seasons, prices drop by 30-50%.

Food and Drink

Eating out in Corsica is perfectly doable, but not cheap:

  • Lunch (plat du jour): EUR 14-18
  • Dinner (restaurant): EUR 25-45 per person
  • Supermarket: 15-25% more expensive than on the mainland
  • Local markets: often better value for vegetables, fruit, and cheese

Cooking for yourself makes a huge difference. The local markets have beautiful produce.

Transport

  • Fuel: comparable to France, slightly more expensive than northern Europe
  • Ferry: EUR 150-400 return (car + 2 people, depending on season)
  • Car hire: from EUR 40 per day in peak season

Daily Budget (Rough Guide)

  • Budget: EUR 80-100 per day (camping, self-catering, few excursions)
  • Mid-range: EUR 150-200 per day (holiday rental, mix of eating in and out)
  • Comfort: EUR 250+ per day (hotel, restaurants, excursions)

Insider tip Bring basic supplies on the ferry (pasta, rice, tinned goods). Everyday groceries in Corsican supermarkets cost considerably more.
