Parking and Fines in Corsica

Corsica in the morning

Summary: Parking in Corsica can be tricky, especially in summer near popular beaches and in small villages. Know the rules, because fines are being issued more and more frequently — including to foreign-registered cars.

During peak season, parking is one of the biggest frustrations in Corsica. Popular beaches and villages fill up quickly and parking space is limited. Being well prepared will save you a lot of stress.

Parking Rules

In most towns and villages, you'll find paid parking in the centre (zone bleue or parking meters). Pay attention to:

  • Zone bleue: a blue parking disc is required, with a maximum stay of 1-2 hours
  • Parking meters: EUR 1-3 per hour, often coins only
  • White lines: free parking
  • Yellow lines: no parking

Near beaches, there are often unpaved parking areas. During peak season, paid parking is increasingly being introduced here (EUR 5-10 per day).

Common Fines

French police are issuing more and more tickets, including to foreign-registered vehicles:

  • Illegal parking: EUR 35
  • Parking in a no-parking zone: EUR 35-135
  • Stopping in a dangerous location: EUR 135
  • Parking in a disabled space: EUR 135

Fines are sent to your home address via the number plate. Pay on time, because after 45 days the amount increases.

Practical Tips

  • Arrive early: popular beaches are often full by 10:00
  • Park a little further away and walk or cycle the last stretch
  • Avoid double-parking — it's strictly fined
  • In mountain villages: park outside the centre and walk in
  • Don't leave valuables visible in the car

Insider tip At popular beaches such as Palombaggia and Rondinara, it's best to arrive before 9 AM in peak season, or after 4 PM when the first beachgoers start to leave.
